I arrived just a few minutes before 8:00 am at TechBuzz Hub office very excited about the journey I was about to embark on.  After initially trying to locate the office, I found it thanks to the help of Google Maps and the large sign on top off the building. Like everyone on their first day of school or work I was nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. I went through the small side gate and up the stairs to the reception where I met one of the staff called Roy who offered me a seat in the waiting area as we waited for the rest of the GPAP participants and the rest of the staff to arrive.

As I waited, I noticed no other participants for the programme had arrived which got me a little worried, but I stayed calm thinking some would arrive a little later. After a couple of hours, Roy called me into the board room where I paid the facilitation fee and was issued a receipt. Then I was handed a few other documents which included the timetable for the orientation day, offer letter to read through and then sign. I was offered breakfast while we waited for the day’s programme to begin.

A little bit later the meeting began where all the TechBuzz Hub staff introduced themselves and so did I giving some background information and why I decided to join the programme. After the introductions, we were able to get back on the schedule of the day where members of the various departments gave presentations about the work they do, what the GPAP programmes were all about and TechBuzz’s vision and mission. All these gave me a great insight into what kind of work they do and prepare me mentally for what was expected of me during the programme.

The day was filled with people giving insight into experiences both work related and others personal which was refreshing to hear. It was a very interesting day and gave me a lot to look forward to. Unfortunately, we run a bit behind on the activities of the day so some of them had to be done the following day
